What’s the Vinyl Neodecanoate?

Vinyl Neodecanoate is α - Highly branched saturated monobasic fatty acid vinyl ester on carbon, with the structural formula shown in the following figure:

R1 and R2 are both alkyl groups, with a total of seven carbon atoms. The tertiary carbon structure has a large steric hindrance, similar to an umbrella like structure, therefore, it has good hydrophobic, acid alkali resistant, and UV resistant characteristics. Vinyl is prone to binary, ternary and multicomponent copolymerization of acrylate, vinyl acetate and other monomers to form copolymer tert carbon lotion.

Vinyl Neodecanoate has a highly branched aliphatic structure and strong stereoprotective function against itself and adjacent monomers in the polymer chain, making it resistant to hydrolysis, especially alkali. And, the new vinyl decanoate will not cause the coating to powder and turn yellow due to degradation. The lotion polymer based on vinyl neodecanoate shows obvious pigment wetting.

It has high durability and scrub resistance, and can also be used for high-end low VOC decorative paints and industrial paints. Therefore, it is widely used in the following fields:

  • Adhesive industry

Because the reactivity ratio of vinyl carbonate and vinyl acetate is similar, it can be used to synthesize high-performance tertiary acetate lotion and tertiary acetate acrylic lotion, which can significantly improve the cohesion, water resistance and permeability of the adhesive, reduce the surface tension of lotion, and prepare small particle size polymer lotion. Widely used in woodworking adhesive, packaging adhesive, ceramic tile adhesive, PVC veneer adhesive, etc;

  • The paint industry

The copolymerization of ethylene tert carbonate with vinyl acetate and other monomers can be used to manufacture environmentally friendly water-based coatings for interior and exterior walls with high tolerance and low volatility. Copolymerization with acrylic esters can be used to manufacture water-based coatings on metal surfaces, plastic surfaces, and wood surfaces with high tolerance and environmental friendliness;

  • Re-dispersible emulsion powders.

A copolymer dispersion based on ethylene tert carbonate vinyl acetate has excellent alkali resistance, saponification resistance, weather resistance, heat resistance, hydrophobicity, excellent flexibility, and strong adhesion to different substrates, suitable for the production and use of redispersible latex powder with different needs.
