Hydroquinone is an important organic developer. It develops more slowly than metol, but once the image appears, density increases rapidly, resulting in high contrast. Development is fastest at 27°C to 29°C; below 15°C it slows down, and below 5°C it almost stops. Using a higher concentration can produce warm-toned images. It is used as a standard photographic developer, as well as a physical developer and redeveloper.
